Arts Communications Intern

MIT invites you to apply as an intern and become a member of the Arts at MIT communications team in Spring 2019. Are you studying communications, marketing or arts administration? Do you love the arts and are you interested in helping spread the word about the dynamic arts initiatives and events happening at MIT? Then join us!

The Arts at MIT is looking for a part-time intern for 8-10 hours per week ($12/hour). Students from any accredited American college or university are encouraged to apply, though this internship is not for credit. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. The internship takes place on MIT’s campus in Cambridge, MA; remote work is not possible.

Students pursuing a degree in a communication or marketing related field preferred. The intern will work closely with the Communications Manager on implementing communications strategies for the Arts at MIT.
Tasks may include:
  • Website Content Management: 
  • Use writing and critical thinking skills to apply Search Engine Optimization (SEO) recommendations to past articles and blog posts, including identifying and tracking keywords, breaking up long paragraphs, writing headers and applying styles.
  • Evaluate and prioritize press clippings to extract quotes, summarize content and update corresponding web listings.
  • Improve consistency in formatting and content accuracy across website.  
  • Graphic Design
  • Use Adobe InDesign to update files for print and digital advertising according to the Arts at MIT brand system, including posters, event programs, digital advertisements, etc.                        
  • Audience Outreach and Data Analysis
  • Process and analyze data from audience surveys, website traffic, email and other sources.
  • Assist in audience building for arts events at MIT, including those produced by the Center for Art, Science & Technology (CAST).
  • Strategize and research target audiences for CAST events, then compile lists for outreach.   
  • Other duties as assigned.                  
Qualifications:
Requirements
  • Attendance and participation in weekly communications meetings held on Tuesdays at 11am
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Knowledge of the academic community in the Boston area
  • Interest in contemporary classical music, world music, jazz, architecture, visual arts, film and/or new media
  • Knowledge of Mac computing environment and WordPress CMS
