BLM Internship Program under the Pathways Programs.
May be placed in a permanent, Federal Government position upon successful completion of program requirements.

Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico

Salary Range: $34,105 to $44,333 per year with promotion potential to the GS-09

Work Schedule: Full-Time

Duties:
Collects basic data on lands, oil and gas, mining, or minerals cases. Determines the accuracy and proper execution of applications or claims and the qualifications for rights requested. Adjudicates routine applications or transactions in lands, coal management, mineral materials disposal, mining or mineral leasing applications or notices where a limited number of facts are involved and the facts are clear-cut. As a trainee learns to determine the accuracy and proper execution of applications or claims and the qualifications of applicants. Drafts simple adjudication decisions on assigned cases involving clearly define facts, readily defined rights and interests, identifiable land status, and nominal values in terms of land and mineral resources. Prepares routine correspondence, notices, and decisions to process cases. Utilizes data, systems and applications to collect, enter, manipulate, update and maintain data according to prescribed Bureau and program standards. Ensures data quality and integrity by adherence to quality control standards and procedures.

Eligibility/Qualification:
  • Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited college/university.
  • Must be taking at least a half-time academic course load leading to a degree or certificate. 
  • Must possess a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • To qualify for the GS-05 Grade: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree (e.g., bachelor's degree).

Important Information:
  • Must be a student the duration of the appointment while acquiring 640 hours of work experience in the BLM Internship Program in order to be eligible to be converted to a permanent, Federal Government position upon successful completion of the program.
