In the past two decades, MassDOT/the MBTA has undergone a metamorphosis, moving from data-poor to data-rich, upgrading systems, and becoming a more innovative and cutting-edge organization. The Human Resources department has been a key leader in innovation at MassDOT and the MBTA, challenging the status quo and reimagining the workplace for the several thousand employees that it supports on a daily basis. HR is a critical hub of communication, training, knowledge and resource sharing, and career development across MassDOT's five Divisions--Rail & Transit, The Registry of Motor Vehicles, Highway, Aeronautics, the MBTA, and its shared service departments. 

As a team member at HR, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the agency by working within the Talent Acquisition Section.

Position Summary

The Talent Acquisition Team, within the Office of Human Resources, is currently seeking a candidate for a paid internship. As part of the Talent Acquisition Team, you will contribute to the team’s effort to establish talent pipelines through proactive recruiting. This will be a rewarding and valuable experience for those students who have an interest in working within the Human Resources field.

To demonstrate your knowledge gained during the internship program, you will be required to host a recruitment event as your final project. This recruitment event will provide you, and the Talent Acquisition Team, with an opportunity to engage with potential candidates in order to develop a talent pipeline for future roles. The following job duties will be essential in hosting a successful event.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and execute a recruitment event that will help to achieve MassDOT hiring goals
  • Collaborate and partner with key internal stakeholders, such as other sections within the Human Resources Department, Hiring Managers in other MassDOT departments, etc., to develop a mission statement for the event
  • Create a promotional and marketing strategy for the event
  • Collaborate with in-house graphic design resources on the promotional materials/invitations
  • Work with the HR Business Intelligence team in order to track the success of the event by developing meaningful metrics
  • Work closely with the Talent Acquisition Coordinator to determine what best practices have been learned from previous career fairs/events
  • Research new ways to expand the Talent Acquisition Team’s outreach, such as web-based sourcing arenas
  • Work closely with the Recruiters to determine target audiences and/or departments in need of candidates
  • Establish and adhere to a budget for the event
  • Participate in external Career Events as needed and appropriate
  • Participate in internal and external team and staff meetings

Preferred Skills at Hire

  • Prior experience in event management
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Interest in working within the Human Resources field
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite
  • Proven skillset in project management
  • Experience in managing social media accounts at an organizational level
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize appropriately

Minimum Entrance Requirements

  • Must have completed at least two years of Bachelor’s program in a related field.
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student for Fall of 2019 or be a Spring 2019 graduate
