The purpose of the Advancing Refugee Student Educational Opportunities (ARSEO) Fall program is to assist Rochester area refugee students with the transition from high school to college. Mentors guide students through the college application process - including important opportunities for scholarships and financial aid.

We utilize peer mentors so participants learn directly from current college students who recently completed this same process successfully. Mentors are expected to assist the program from 2:00pm-5:30pm (Tu-W-Th), which includes prep time and group meeting times with other mentors.

Responsibilities of Peer Mentor:
  • Attend peer mentor trainings by ARSEO Director
  • Attend regular meetings of peer mentors during the program
  • Assist students with FAFSA, the Common Application, the college essay, and scholarship
  • Tutoring for SAT and ACT preparation and registration
  • Work one-on-one with student participants
  • Fulfill work obligations in a professional, efficient, and timely manner
  • Update and report to ARSEO Director any issues or key developments throughout the fall program
