Our office is in need of an in-depth researcher who can focus on criminal justice, housing, environment, social services, and/or mental health policy as our office receives substantive requests outside of our capacity as Health Chair. The Policy Intern will be able to present policy recommendations based on their research. Interns will be expected to act as extensions of our staff by attending meetings, legislative sessions, budget briefings, and staffing the Senator at events. We also expect to include them in staff meetings so that they can get a strong understanding of how their work in our Albany office directly impacts our district. Additionally, they will be given the opportunity to review introduced legislation, write briefs on legislation going through the legislative process, propose co-sponsorships, and brief the Senator on legislative matters. They will also learn how to use and navigate the Legislative Retrieval System to assist our Policy Director with committee and active list recommendations.
